The Trust delivered three ‘Big days out’ including two mainstream activities on each side of the borough (Stadium Way and Howe Bridge Leisure Centre) as well as a Big Day Out evening for children and young people with additional needs.

Over the three ‘days out’, we worked with 109 children and their families (12 adults registered). Childrens ages ranged from 6 – 16 with over 80% coming from areas within the top 20% LSOAs.

The events included a range of activities including sports, climbing, skating, cycling and video games. The young people played all the activities and were also provided with a meal prepared by a local community food organization, supporting them in the process.

I was a little bit shy at first, but now I’m more confident. I feel better because I know some people

I have had a go at all the stuff and my favourite was the rock climbing. I’ve never done it before and I even got to the top
To give all these kids the opportunity to try all these things at once in a safe place is amazing, and to get food too isn’t bad either!
— A parent
The funding from Meals & More for the Big day out has given so many young people the opportunity to get out, be active, make friends and have a good meal all for free. Many of them have had experiences they’ve never had before which has really made their summer.
