CLUB: Hope in Community – St Georges Church/ Barnsley Baptist church

DATE: 24th August 2023 (Beach) 12-13th August Camp

On the 12th till 13th August we took 20 young people to the exodus project site to have a night of camping indoors, the young people enjoyed a motivation talk by a individual who played for great Britain in wheelchair basketball. The young people had a go at wheelchair basketball, played on water slide, watch a film, warm up session, games, crafts, treasure hunt and great team building.

We HOPE in Community took three coaches to Bridlington 2x 70 seaters and 1 57-seater total people we could take was 197 plus 3 drivers who we also provided £5 to toward their dinner. We left St George’s Church at around 9.05 and arrived at Bridlington around 11.30am and lifted around 17.15 and arrived back to church around 7pm

We took 73 children on free school meals, 32 non free school meals, 77 adults plus drivers which meant we only had 15 seats remaining taking a total of 185 people including the drivers. This was funded by us, yourself (Meals & More) and by the HAF program with BMBC.

Fantastic day spending time with our family and friend, it was lovely seeing many of the kids playing together on the beach the kids really enjoyed their fish and chips as a treat.

We loved it was so good and you all made it very easy and I didn’t feel in the way with Dylan and his wheelchair. I loved that my mum was able to come as its support for me thank you for everything you do.

We enjoyed the trip to the beach as beach is not local to where we live in Barnsley. It was really nice to go with friends and do something memorable during holidays. My little one was super excited! My main priority as a parent is to find activities to minimize screen time and this has helped me with my goal. It was the first time we received £5 each a total of £10 given to us for lunch and we were delighted. We are grateful to Peter for organizing activities that truly helped develop and maintain social skills during long summer break that is now useful to ease my daughter into school this week. I hope you will continue to provide more of these activities in future thank you to Peter and the team.

All young people enjoyed the food, water slide and Andy’s Talk there all want to come again and really enjoyed the experience.

Staff debrief and feedback were better than preview year with having more experience one volunteer said can’t believe it was the only second time us doing this and the team was great. Young people were very well behaved, and volunteer dealt with a traffic incident well and first aid incidents one being an asthma attack, volunteer went on to do pediatric first aid to support other incidents in the future.
