The event was held over three days at Fairburn Activity Centre in Strathconnon.

We provided 60 free places for local children with 20 children each day along with six adult volunteers. We set off from Inverness every Thursday at 10am to meet up with others in Beauly at 10:30am then on to Fairburn.

At Fairburn they experienced outdoor activities which consisted of canoeing, archery, orienteering, zorbing, laser tag, metal detecting and were taught skills in forest survival which had our guys foraging for materials to do den building and fire starting, heating marshmallows over the flames. All activities were facilitated by the highly trained staff at Fairburn. Our young people had a great time while learning new skills.

Activities started at 11am and went on till 3:30pm with a break for alfresco lunch mid-way. For lunch we had a selection of sandwiches along with pork pies and mini sausages followed by apples, bananas, grapes, carrots and cucumbers with yoghurt and fruit juice. On the way back to our base in Beauly we managed to stop for ice lollies. Some of the children were a bit apprehensive as they hadn’t experienced such outings, but they soon relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed the activities.

Parents were delighted with how their children got on.

My son has ADHD and came home excited to tell how much he loved everything” she went on to tell us “He wants to do this every week and that he loves Rokzkool.

I especially liked the boats as that’s what the Vikings did

Each day was a great success, we spread the Big Day Out over three days to maximise the places available and working within our limited resources.

Our charity, which caters to people from diverse backgrounds and abilities, was proud to offer activities for kids with Autism and Duchene’s during the Big Day Out sponsored by Meals and More. This inclusive approach added another layer of meaningful engagement to the event, ensuring that all participants had the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from the outdoor activities and new skills.
